Sparty now resides in Denver, Colorado, in the man cave of its pride new owner, MSU alum, 2000 NCAA National Champion, and NBA star, Jason Richardson.
ArtPrize is a nationwide art competition held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. When attempting to decide the subject of his piece for it, T.WAY began with listing his various passions: branding, design, athletics, and college. It wasn't until he combined these areas of interest did he land on Sparty. He is more than just an over-stuffed mascot, Sparty is one of the greatest brand symbols in the world of sports.
T.WAY used acrylic paints to showcase his own version of the pointillism brush technique. He wanted this piece to be simple in terms of color, but yet very detailed. Each point was made using a single small brush. The four individual canvases measure a total of 8ft x 5ft. Each canvas was painted separately, and it wasn't until they were installed on the wall did they finally come together as one.
